ABOUT

Nowadays people have become very health conscious because of growth of dreadful diseases like obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, anaemia, kidney diseases and cancer worldwide. The diet i.e. the food  we eat also has an important role to play in our health apart from our social, behavioral, psychological, and metabolic factors. So in my view, by knowing the nutritive value of  food we eat, we can control the spread of these diseases to a measurable extent.
The availability of nutrients differ with food. A nutrient may be surplus in one food item but may not be even in trace in other . Notwithstanding that every food has its own nutrients and  is beneficial to our body in its own way. Adequate knowledge about the foods and its nutritive value will help you to stay healthy.

RICE

Rice, the staple food of Indians is a good energy source. It contains 6.4 g of protein, 0.4 g of fat, 0.7 g of minerals, 0.2 g of fibre, 79 g of carbohydrates, 9mg of calcium, 143mg of phosphorus, 1mg of iron, 0.21mg of vitamin thiamine, 3.8 mg of niacin, 11 microg of folic acid per 100g. Milled rice do not contain carotene. But hand pounded rice contains 2 -9 micro g of carotene per 100g.
It is a art to cook rice. A ready to serve rice must be fully cooked, each grain must be separate, and must not be sticky. Some says cooking in cooker is the best way to preserve the nutrients. But rice tastes the same whether you cook it in cooker or in a pot. Rice water is duly prescribed by ayurvedic practitioners as an effective ointment to cool off inflamed skin surfaces.
